European Automotive Technician

German Autowerke Inc. — Oceanside, CA

If you’re the technician everyone comes to for difficult diagnostics, electrical problems, drivability issues, or the jobs nobody else can figure out — keep reading.

German Autowerke is a dealership-level independent shop specializing exclusively in BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Porsche, Volkswagen, and MINI. We are not a high-volume discount shop, and we are not looking for entry-level technicians.

We’re looking for an experienced European diagnostic technician who takes pride in fixing vehicles correctly, documenting thoroughly, and working in a professional environment without flat-rate games, chaos, or micromanagement.

What Makes This Different:

No weekends. Ever.
No nights.
No holidays.
No “sell everything” culture.
No rushed guesswork diagnostics.
No management breathing down your neck.

We focus on:

Proper diagnostics.
OE-level repair procedures.
High-quality workmanship.
Long-term customer relationships.
A real 4-year / 40,000-mile warranty.

If you care more about fixing cars correctly than beating book time at all costs, you’ll probably fit in well here.

Compensation:

Base salary starting around $5,600/month depending on experience.
Production bonus structure up to $70/flagged hour.
Typical experienced technician earnings: $92,000–$136,000+.
Top performers can earn substantially more.

Benefits:

50% employer-paid health insurance.
3% 401(k) match.
Paid vacation.
Paid holidays.
Closed weekends.
Modern, well-lit facility.
Factory-level scan tools.
PicoScope.
ISTA, XENTRY, ODIS, PIWIS access.
Strong workflow systems and support staff.

What We’re Looking For:

Required:

5+ years automotive experience.
Strong European vehicle diagnostic ability.
Ability to diagnose electrical, drivability, CAN/network, and mechanical faults.
Ability to use wiring diagrams and scopes confidently.
Professional communication and documentation.
Pride in workmanship.

Preferred:

BMW ISTA experience.
Mercedes XENTRY experience.
PicoScope experience.
ASE or manufacturer certifications.
Previous European shop experience.

This Is Probably NOT a Good Fit If:

You struggle with diagnostics.
You rely heavily on parts swapping.
You dislike documentation or DVIs.
You need constant supervision.
You want a fast-paced “production only” environment.
You’re looking for the easiest shop possible.

About German Autowerke:

Over 35 years serving North County San Diego.
250+ five-star reviews.
Family-owned.
Professional customer base.
Dealership-level clientele without dealership politics.
